The Short Stories

Fitzgerald began writing short stories while he was was a student at St. Paul Academy and had them published in the school newspaper as early as 1909.

In 1924 "Absolution", the story Fitzgerald says depicts Jay Gatsby as a child in the character of Rudolph Miller, was published in H.L. Mencken's magazine The American Mercury  and in the collection entitled All the Sad Young Men published in 1926. It was re-visited in a recent article in Slate Magazine

Many of the short stories are available in electronic format to read on your computer, smart phone or other device from wikisource and Project Gutenberg Australia.
